On road refinement, with off road ability, the Volkswagen Amarok has well and truly established itself as one of the best Utes available on the Australian market. This Amarok comes with the Highline equipment grade and is powered by a 4-cylinder twin turbo diesel engine that is capable of delivering 132 kW of power and 400Nm of torque. The transmission is a smooth 6-speed manual that maintains a light feeling, and is widely thought to be one of the better manual transmissions for a ute of this class.
The 4MOTION all-wheel drive system fitted to this dual-cab version features a Torsen differential, Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), and mechanical rear differential lock. This gives the car a planted feeling, which is extremely confidence inspiring, especially when under heavy load or on dirt roads. The standard heavy-duty suspension Amarok has a payload of between 1164kg and 1394kg. The Braked towing capacity is 3000kg with a 300kg downfall weight.
The Amarok has long been acclaimed for its spacious interior and passenger vehicle-style refinement, and this dual cab version is no different. On the safety end, features include driver and front passenger airbags, front head/ thorax side airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and antilock brakes (ABS). This resulted in it being the first first ute to be awarded 5 stars in the ANCAP safety system.
With it’s class leading fuel economy, refinement, ride and handling, this a workhorse capable of dealing with whatever gets thrown its way.
